How Do Custom Part Requests Work?

Every custom project is different, but most projects can be broken down into three main parts: design, part cost, and lead time. Here's what to expect before submitting your request.

1. Design Fee

Every custom project begins with a one-time design fee, which covers CAD design work and 3D scanning when necessary. The design fee is charged once, regardless of how many parts are ultimately ordered.

For most simple projects, design fees range from $100–$300. This typically includes automotive emblems, basic trim pieces, and other small appearance-based parts with relatively simple geometry.

Larger parts and projects involving complex geometry, multiple components, tight tolerances, extensive reverse engineering, or significant development work will typically have higher design fees.

2. Part Cost

For many custom projects, the exact cost to produce the part cannot be determined until the design is complete. Part cost can vary significantly depending on size, quantity, material, complexity, manufacturing process, and finishing requirements.

Before beginning design work, we will provide a rough estimated part cost whenever possible. The purpose of this estimate is to make sure the expected cost of the finished product is reasonably within your budget before investing in the design process. This estimate is not a guaranteed final price.

As a general reference, an average custom automotive emblem with our premium finish typically costs around $200 per part. This includes 3D printing in 316 stainless steel, polishing, plating, and 3M adhesive backing. This is only an estimate—every part is different, and final pricing will depend on the specific design, size, quantity, and finishing requirements.

Once the design is complete, final production pricing will be provided. Payment for the project will be due before production begins.

3. Lead Time

Custom projects are completed in the order they are accepted. Depending on the current project queue, it may take several weeks before your project reaches the review and design stage.

Once your project is approved, production time will vary depending on the part, manufacturing process, quantity, and complexity. We will provide an expected production timeline once the project details, pricing, and requirements have been established.
